Before you start
Your workspace must have the Sidecar Slack app connected. Any human member of the connected Slack workspace can start a run. You do not need a linked Sidecar user account to send the request.Send a request

Open the Sidecar app in Slack
In Slack, find Sidecar under Apps and open its direct-message conversation.

Describe the work
Send a plain-text request. You do not need to mention the app or name an agent.Include the target, expected result, and relevant constraints. For example:

Continue in the thread
Reply in the same Slack thread when the agent asks for clarification or when you want to add context. Follow-up messages stay attached to the same run and do not select a different agent.
How Sidecar chooses an agent
Sidecar classifies the first message against the agents available to your workspace. It falls back to Builder when the request is empty, classification fails, or no agent reaches the confidence threshold. Sidecar does not show a persona-selection prompt. Write the request clearly when you want a specialist, such as Reliability for an incident or Optimization for warehouse cost analysis.Settings used by Slack runs
The selected agent’s Settings → Run defaults supply its delivery mode and tool permissions. The run can use every MCP server granted under Connected tools. See Configure agent defaults.View the run in Agent Console
Slack-started runs appear in the Agent Console with Slack as their origin. Account Admins can open the run, inspect its transcript, cancel it, and manage approvals. Sending a Slack request does not grant the sender access to Agent Console.Approve from Slack
When a gateable tool pauses, Sidecar can send approval controls in Slack. The approver must:- Link their Slack identity when prompted
- Belong to the same Sidecar workspace
- Have the Account Admin role
