Register an MCP server once, grant it to an agent, and then choose whether each job can use it. If the server is not registered yet, follow Connect an MCP server.

Grant a server to an agent

  1. In Sidecar, select Agents.
  2. Open the agent that needs the server.
  3. Click Settings.
  4. Under Scope → Connected tools, select the MCP server.
Changes save automatically. A status dot shows the server’s latest known health.
Builder settings with Snowflake selected under Connected tools

Selecting a server under Connected tools grants it to the agent.

The grant sets the maximum MCP access for that agent. Jobs cannot enable a server that the agent has not been granted.
Removing a grant also removes that server from the agent’s job selections and tool-permission exceptions.

Select servers for a job

  1. Open the agent’s job.
  2. Find MCP servers.
  3. Leave all granted servers enabled, or clear the servers this job should not use.
By default, a job uses all MCP servers currently granted to its agent. This includes servers granted later. Once you create an explicit selection, the job uses only that saved subset.

A job can enable any MCP server granted to its agent.

Configure approvals for an MCP server

MCP permissions apply to the entire server rather than individual discovered tools. Under Tool permissions:
  • Autonomous lets gateable tools run automatically. Add an MCP server as an exception when that server should pause for approval.
  • Supervised pauses gateable tools for Account Admin approval. Add an MCP server as an exception when that server may run automatically.
Core repository tools remain available in either mode. See Runs and approvals for the approval flow.

Slack runs

A Slack run can use every MCP server granted to the selected agent. It uses the permissions under the agent’s Settings → Run defaults, not a job’s MCP selection or permissions.
